Location Crete
Crete is the largest Greek island (area: 8.336 km2 and population: 601.131), the 5th largest island of the Mediterranean Sea and the southernmost island of Europe. Its capital and also largest city is Heraklion (population: 142.112). To the north there is the Aegean and to the south the Libyan Sea. Crete consists of four prefectures: Heraklion, Chania, Rethymno and Lassithi.
Crete was the centre of Minoan Civilization (approx. 3000 - 1400 B.C.), one of the oldest European civilizations.
